th actress-activist also builds self confidence by indulging in rituals that bring her joy. “it’s really primordial to feel ☺ to feel confident. and happiness lies inna lilest of things,” she shares. “whenever i’m having a down dy, i eat my favorite meal, wash off my makeup and apply an amazing moisturizer, ‘ve a shower, or meet up with pplz i ♥ and who ♥ me. these lil things are such luxuries and make me feel good.”
knowing her self care connection to beauty, it makes sense that she’d ptner witha skincare brand like obagi. as their brand ambassador and face of “skinclusion,” she fronts a global campaign to victor diversity in beauty. “for 30 yrs, obagi has tested for every single skin tone. that’s amazing to see,” she says. “that hundreds-of-yrs old narrative and standard of beauty created round women of color needo change for the nxt generation by every one of us empowering, complimenting, and seeing the beauty in ≠ colors.”

she always applies sunblock.
“i like to use the obagi pro-c suncare sunblock. pplz don’t realize that every skin type needs sunblock or sun protection. i ♥ that it doesn’t givda whitish stains you get with sunblock. this one doesn’t get ashy at all cause t'has a matte finish. it works preshly under makeup.”
she never sleeps with makeup.
“the most primordial thing is to take off yr makeup b4 ye go to bed at nite. it ‘d be almost like a routine, like how we brush our teeth!”
she wears a brite lipstick to boost her mood.
“all the makeup that i own is literally donations from my makeup artists cause i don’t use makeup everydy as much. whenever i’m feeling run-down, i wear a brite mouth. i feel like it distracts from my exhaustion. that means whenever you’ve seen me in a briteer lip, i’m feeling really tired! i do ♥ mac’s ruby woo. i’ve worn it for yrs and i feel like that’s a red that works on every skin type n'it’s a presh, deep matte red.”
she emphasizes her eyebrows.
“i thread my eyebrows. i think threading is betta tha' waxing, for sure. it doesn’t pull at yr skin as much. it’s very precise. i like to keep the front of my eyebrows a lil natural. i like my eyebrows looking groomed. iffey frame yr face rite, then you don’t need very much makeup. eyebrow pencils are very primordial to me — i’m using a dior one atta moment.”
she embraces a diy beauty recipe.
“i use a mask called ubtan. it’s not for sensitive skin, but i use this on my face swell: it’s basically yogurt, lil lemon, a pinch of turmeric powder, and flour. you put it on yr body and scrub it off like an exfoliant. liteer skin ‘d be careful cause turmeric can stain yr skin, but i’ve always found it very healing, espeshly after a dy inna sun. i also ♥ a coconut oil head massage. it’s very very indian! and works so well. it keeps the circulation on yr scalp goin n'it’s relaxing and then you just wash it off. hot coconut oil is even + relaxing but i sometimes don’t ‘ve the luxury for that.”
she doesn’t skimp on skincare while traveling.
“i just ‘ve quick couple of steps that i do inna morning, and a couple of steps that i do at nite, dep'n'how much i’m traveling, how my skin’s feeling. air traveling dehydrates yr skin a lot, and i’m na' plane almost every 7 dys. so it’s primordial to keep it hydrated. i try and experiment with ≠ sheet masks while flying. the 2nd thing i use is an amazing moisturizer rite b4 i land. i keep my obagi hydrate luxe with me everywhere. it’s in my bag, it’s in my toiletry case. rite b4 i land, i just put a bunch o'it b4 i do my makeup. and i feel absolutely fresh.”
she prioritizes lil wellness wins, like guzzling wata.
“my life is crazy in terms of how much i travel. i try and work out whenever i get an opportunity. i train atta gym whenever i can, which aint as often as i ‘d like. i make sure i eat rite, gettin salads, lotso' veggies. i think that’s really primordial. i make sure i keep my wata bottle with me all the time and i always ‘ve to refill it. as soon as i finish it, i like top it off again. i feel like wha’ you put inside of yr body cogitates in wha’ you see outside: how you eat, how much rest you can get, how much wata you drink. drink wata all dy! it’s the elixir of life.”
